Almost impossible to believe, but Yuri Pugachev, celebrated artist of the Soviet Era, began his career at the early age of six. A remarkable beginning for an exemplary talent who has stated his creative principle in this way, “The choice of theme and character does not dictate the professionalism of manner or style. On the contrary, it is his inspiration that dictates everything: the choice of materials, the manner, and the style.”

Since his very early beginnings Yuri has participated in numerous group and personal exhibitions in Russia, Europe and Japan. His works can be found in personal and public collections scattered throughout Russia, Germany, Japan, Finland, France, Hungary, Poland, Italy, England, Syria, Switzerland and America.

His childhood talent was formalized at the Leningrad Higher Industrial Arts School, named after V.I. Mukhina (former Baroness von Stiglitsa School), from which he graduated in 1959. Thereafter, Pugachev studied under Boris Ugarof at the world-renowned Repin Institute in St. Petersburg. There he was acclaimed for his figurative compositions.

The broad range of his works which include mosaics, stained glass, sculptures, portraits, and landscapes reflect the influences he experienced in his life. He was awarded “Honored Artist of the Soviet Union,” in 1972 and his works were commissioned for cultural institutions and government buildings.

Yuri loved life, humanity and in particular the poetry of everything that he composed into traditional realism. Captivated by the world of ballet, opera and theatre, it is a theme that flows throughout his life’s works.
