On Tuesday March 6, 2007, the Pushkin Fund hosted a reception at the Derzhavin Museum in St. Petersburg to celebrate the debut exhibition of the 'Two Ceres' by Peter Paul Rubens at the Hermitage. The 'Phillppi Ceres' was recently discovered by Mr. Hermann Beyeler of Lucerne, Switzerland, renowned collector and scholar of 16th to 19th Century paintings. In the 1770's, Catherine the Great acquired the Rubens 'La Ceres' currently in the Hermitage collection. When Hermitage director, Dr. Mikhail Piotrovsky became aware of the Mr. Beyeler's discovery he organized the exhibition of the twin paintings to be shown side by side. Mr. Beyeler graciously agreed to host a charity reception in favor of the Pushkin Fund, under the patronage of Prince George Yourievsky and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Russia. The exhibition at the Hermitage opened on March 7 and was on display until June 3. In May, a group of 9 leading Rubens scholars from around the world convened in St. Petersburg to further evaluate and discuss this extraordinary find.
